Marlies Dekkers

This woman needs no introduction. To put it bluntly: if you do not know her, then you need to get out from under that rock you have been living under. We are not only talking about her having made a name for herself in the Netherlands in recent years, we are talking about world domination. Lady Gaga, Tyra Banks, Famke Louise, Katy Perry, Monica Geuze; despite all being bold and authentic, these women have something else in common: they have been spotted in a ‘Marlies’. Marlies sells her lingerie in over 500 stores worldwide under marlies|dekkers. This not only makes Marlies an incredibly fascinating businesswoman, but she has also done loads to shake up the image of women today. Namely from being soft and sexy for men, to being feminist and sexy for yourself. Interested in knowing what Marlies thinks about female empowerment, female leadership and sexuality? Our answer is a resounding YES!

Occupation
Founder and creative director at marlies|dekkers

Can be seen and heard at The Self-Made Summit...
...as part of the New Female Leaders panel. Moderated by Caroline Glasbergen (entrepreneur and founder of New Female Leaders), the panel has been put together by way of her personal insights and exceptional network.

The topic of the panel? Female leadership:

  • Where do we stand?

  • What is still to win?

  • How are we going to achieve this?

Caroline will discuss all of the above with Maartje Laterveer (writer for the likes of De Volkskrant, Het Financiele Dagblad [The Financial Times] and Vogue), Marlies Dekkers and Kaouthar Darmoni (managing director of Atria).

Other topics that the New Female Leaders panel will shine light upon: being a woman, sexuality and spirituality. Because let’s be honest, all of these topics are intertwined. How do you stay feminine, keep in touch with yourself and make an impact? How do you find the right balance between masculine and feminine energy?

With her tremendous curiosity and razor-sharp journalistic talent, Caroline will search for the answers along with help from Maartje, Marlies and Kaouthar.

We know her from
In 1991, Marlies Dekker graduated from the St. Joost art academy with honors. She did so with a controversial graduation project: her bare bottom dress. A dress that has since become part of the Rijksmuseum’s collection. As it turned out, this dress signified the beginning of career as a lingerie designer and founder of the marlies|dekkers brand.

In addition to its webshop and five brick and mortar stores, marlies|dekkers now has more than 500 points of sale across the globe. Marlies’ designs are worn by influencers and artists such as Famke Louise, Romy Monteiro and Monica Geuze. International celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Tyra Banks and Katy Perry have also been spotted in marlies|dekkers.

In everything that she does, Marlies is committed to the cause of female empowerment. Her designs are created from a female perspective with the purpose of giving every woman who wears them a surge of self-confidence.

Through and through, the marlies|dekkers collections are inspired by one of Marlies’ many muzes. Strong women from the past or present, who, according to Marlies, have lived or live by her motto: “Dare to dream, dare to grow, dare to be.”
