Maartje Laterveer
A journalist at heart, who not only has a flair for language and love for the written (or typed) word, but also an important message. Maartje has quite the resume, having been editor-in-chief for ELLE, published essays for Vogue, written columns for Het Financieele Dagblad (The Financial Times) and in-depth pieces of substance for De Volkskrant. Diversity and inclusiveness are some of the most important themes in her pieces, with women and feminism being of special interest to her. Oh yeah, she also has three books to her name and in 2020 she’s changing course; from a journalist who wants to make the world a little bit better, to a coach who helps enrich individual lives. Those are the kind of goals we’re talking about. The word ‘fear’ doesn’t seem to be in her vocabulary, and that’s what makes us so interested in her thoughts on female leadership...
Occupation
Writer, journalist.
Can be seen and heard at The Self-Made Summit...
...as part of the New Female Leaders panel. Moderated by Caroline Glasbergen (entrepreneur and founder of New Female Leaders), the panel has been put together by way of her personal insights and exceptional network.
The topic of the panel? Female leadership:
Where do we stand?
What is still to win?
How are we going to achieve this?
Caroline will discuss all of the above with Maartje Laterveer, Marlies Dekkers (founder of marlies|dekkers) and Kaouthar Darmoni (managing director of Atria). Other topics that the New Female Leaders panel will shine light upon: being a woman, sexuality and spirituality. Because let’s be honest, all of these topics are intertwined. How do you stay feminine, keep in touch with yourself and make an impact? How do you find the right balance between masculine and feminine energy? With her tremendous curiosity and razor-sharp journalistic talent, Caroline will search for the answers along with help from Maartje, Marlies and Kaouthar.
Expert knowledge
Will teach you how to look at a problem from different perspectives.
Knows how to write a story, literally and figuratively, for example; the story of your career.
Possesses an unbelievable amount of knowledge about being a woman in the 21st century.
We know her from
Maartje studied French and literature in Nijmegen as well as the Sorbonne in Paris. She held the position of editor-in-chief for ELLE magazine for a long time, but come 2009, decided it was time to move forward as a freelancer. In recent years, she has penned articles for the likes of De Volkskrant and Het Financieele Dagblad (The Financial Times) on the topics of diversity and inclusiveness. Maartje writes for Vogue about books, interviews authors and writes essays about anything and everything that has to do with being a woman in these complicated yet fascinating times. In 2012, Maartje made her debut as an author with her novel entitled De mooiste kleur die niet bestaat (The most beautiful color which does not exist). Further down the line in September 2017, Maartje published her book Vrouwen & seks (Women & sex) and in February 2019 she published a collection of essays concerning the question: what makes a woman? In between all of her writing, Maartje also teaches essay writing courses at the Schrijversvakschool (school for aspiring writers). Every now and then (at The Self-Made Summit for instance), Maartje takes part in debates, lectures and television programs as a moderator or a speaker. In 2020, she will also take on a whole new challenge: “Just as I once became a journalist to make the world a little bit better, I now want to become a coach to make people’s lives a little bit better. Anyone who wants to learn to be more mindful and powerful in their lives can get in touch with me starting this fall, women in particular.”
