Over the past few years, Hyshil has been busy creating gorgeous, dreamy illustrations for the likes of Vogue, DWDD, Cluse and the Dutch National Opera & Ballet. However her dreams aren’t bound to paper. Hyshil works hard to make a difference in the world of education and is particularly committed to the areas of society, identity and diversity.

Occupation
Creative director, illustrator and lecturer.

Speaking at The Self-Made Summit about
Hyshil is at The Self-Made Summit to start a conversation with you about the topic of identity. What does identity actually mean? Why is it so incredibly important to know who you are?

Hyshil wants to know how you think about identity, whilst sharing her own vision on the subject with you. The idea behind all this? At the end of her talk, you will be left with fascinating answers to some pressing questions. However, you’re also going to have more unanswered questions than when you started. But let us be clear: In the end that’s actually the point. Personal development begins when questions are asked, and awareness is ignited...

As well as pondering the subject of identity, Hyshil will also deepdive into diversity (which is a concept strongly intertwined with that of identity when we’re talking about minorities). ‘Diversity’ is of course a hot topic in today’s society, but it has now almost become a catch-all term that is still not taken as seriously as it should be within some organizations. Hyshil will discuss how to make the concept of diversity more concrete and therefore something people can actually talk about. So that not only you, but also your team, manager, whoever… actually understands what it means. After Hyshil’s talk you will have the power to do something with it. In this way you can remove the fear around diversity, and bring it closer to your company than was previously possible, due to your newfound knowledge.

The experience helped her further her skills to become an illustrator and designer within her own company, and later on both creative director and art director. Hyshil worked for clients such as Cluse, Brandt & Levie, DWDD, the Dutch National Opera & Ballet and Het Parool.

Besides successfully running her own business, Hyshil is currently working as a teacher at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, teaching Communication and Creative Business. She specializes in teaching Visual Brand Identity and Media and Society. Hyshil also actively coaches third-year students in their major: Entrepreneurship.

Last but not least, Hyshil set up the HvA Diversity Hub last year for students with a special interest in topics such as identity and diversity.
